Waiting

This is my first oil painting.

The girl is has turned to stone from waiting so long for her father to come back from the war. The cobwebs have formed as well as cracks in the wall, and the once-lush bouquet at the right has turned to decay. Her mother, in the portrait at the right, had died from despair. Her father is pictured on the right and her hand is extended towards him as an indication of her reason for her vigilance. The light from the window symbolizes hope, as she hopes to spot her father coming home. But the darkness of the room, like the darkness in her heart, traps her in the cold stonelike despair of waiting.

Basically what I'm trying to say here is that waiting- for anything, but especially a loved one, hurts.

The idea of the project was to convey a deeper meaning. Is that deep enough for you?

Note: this is an extremely dark painting, but if you can't see the green carpet on the bottom left, then you either need to recalibrate your monitor or just get a new one altogether.
